The final project for EMC may be one of two options: An original composition or a Remix.
Original Composition Requirements:

The final project for EMC may be one of two options: An original composition or a Remix.
Original Composition Requirements:
- 3-3:30 minutes in length.
- At least two contrasting sections (verse and chorus for example)
- DAW of you choice
- The tracks will include: (total number of tracks is up to you but must demonstrate your skill level)
- Midi (Xpand, Structure Free etc)
- Audio (loops etc)
- Live element (instrument, voice, original sounds, be creative)
- Typed paragraph with a description of the tracks, sounds, live element used, effects added and general process of composing.
- Remix the entire song
- DAW of your choice
- Tracks will include:
- Midi
- Audio (loops etc)
- One track with the original song - to be muted while bouncing to disk.
- Typed paragraph in which you identify the original composer, sounds used, and effects used.
Assignment #7 Video Sound Effects
- Import the Polar Bear animation as the visual aspect to your project. These QuickTime Movie is found in the EMC2016 folder on the K-Drive
- Mute the audio of the original video and create your own audio effects and sound bed for the video.
- You must add effects and music to the entire video.
- Bounce to QuickTime video and upload to the Assignment #7 file.
EMC Assignment #6 - Xpand2 Composition - Due April 8 at the end of class.
You must use Pro Tools Express for this assignment.

- Use all that you learned in Assignment #5 to compose a song using only Xpand2 tracks. This includes layers, automation, ARP and MOD as in Assignment #5. You may use assignment #5 as part of your original song.
- You may use as many track and layers as Pro Tools Express can handle but must use 4 tracks as a minimum.
- The song must have 2 contrasting sections and be at least 1:30 in length.
- Bounce to disc and submit to the Assignment #6 folder

- Watch “Become an Xpand2 Power User” Part and Part 2 videos on the website
- Use the Xpand2 Template for Assignment #5 to recreate the sounds and techniques in the tutorial videos including automation. The template is found in the EMC Spring 2016 folder (the template has no vocals).
- Bounce to disc and submit to Assignment #5 folder
EMC Assignment #4 - This assignment is due March 7 with presentations to be done on March 9 and 11 before Spring Break.
- Find a music creation app for your smartphone, it can be free or purchased. If you don’t have a smartphone find an online DAW other than the ones we have used so far in class.
- Learn how to use the app/DAW by experimenting, using Youtube.com for demo videos for find other online instruction.
- Compose a loop, beat, or short song (any electronic style) with the app and then import it into Pro Tools - you must use Pro Tools. (We will discuss how to import as needed)
- Prepare a 1 - 2 page Prezi or Powerpoint to present your app to the class. The presentation must have the following:
- Images of the app/DAW showing how it works
- A description of the type of app/DAW
- The URL (link) for the App Store or site where the app/DAW is available for download or use.
- Your review/opinion of the app/DAW and how effective it is at creating the sound/loops/music it is supposed to create.
- Use the imported loop, beat or short song you created on the app/DAW by importing it into Pro Tools to become a part of a song you compose in Pro Tools.
- Presentations of your Prezi/PowerPoint and your song will be done March 9 and 11 before Spring Break.

This project requires a music composition and a one page written report.

- Identify and research the music style
- Find and name at least 3 example songs from three different composers/bands in your chosen style (song name, composer or band)
- Write a description of the style and what makes it unique from other styles
- Write a brief history of the style (when was it first identified, was it a modification of another style, is there a composer or band who first created it)
- Identify the sources for your findings
- Determine what main tracks and instruments you need to create the style accurately. You will be able to add and remove as you go but start with a written framework
- Compose a chord progression for the song, if you're not sure how use https://autochords.com/
- Write out the notes of the chord on staff paper or piano roll so you can successfully enter them into the DAW. This is part of the written assignment. (Ask for help if needed)
- Compose the song in your chosen style

Each online DAW has its advantages and disadvantages, explore a little of each one then make a choice. Most require an email to create an account in which you can save and export audio. If you don't want to use your usual email address create a new one using Gmail for this project then you can cancel the account.
The project must meet the following criteria:
1. Minimum 4 tracks
2. Minimum 60 seconds in length and music have at least 3 contrasting sections
3. This assignment may be done in collaboration with another student in the class or by yourself. If completed as a collaboration, each student must submit an assignment to the K-Drive folder.
5. When the assignment is complete, show Mr. White the online software and the process of your project.
